Art in Action (Research & Planning)

Length: 3 Weeks

This unit is the first half of the artists’ culminating final project of publishing their very own activist zine. This will be an exciting undertaking for the young activist-artists to actively stand up to injustice within their community.
Beginning with a reflection of the topics, issues, and ideas that they have been explored thus far, the students will collaboratively determine a theme for their zine.

Students will:

  • Reflect on the discussions and learnings from the program thus far
  • Work as a team to identify a social justice issue within their community that they’d like to address
  • Study how zines have been used as sources of resistance, education, and social change
  • Create a plan for the creation and sharing of their own zine
